Birth: Debadatta Barkataki was born on 1st January, 1951. His father was late Durgadatta Barkataki. Bili Barkataki is his mother.

Education :

Debadatta Barkataki received primary education at the age of six at Bharalumukh LP School of Guwahati, under guidance of former educationalist Bhageswari Devi. After completion of primary education he joined Sonaram High School and read upto class VI. Later on he was admitted into Cotton Collegiate HS School at class VII. After completion of High School Leaving Examination, he completed Pre-University classes from Pragjyotish College. He graduated from Arya Vidyapith College under the guidance of  principal late Giridhar Sarma, with honors in Chemistry in the year 1971. Debadatta Barkataki completed Masters in chemistry from Gauhati University in 1973 and secured first class degree in inorganic Chemistry. Soon after completion of master degree, he started Ph.D work under the guidance of Prof. Nalini Kumar Baishya on part-time basis. His father was the inspiring force behind his activities. He was awarded Ph.D degree in the year 1981. During this period, he also completed diploma course in Russian language from Guwahati University.

Working Experience:
Debadatta Barkataki started his carrier in the year 1973 as a school teacher at Kamrup Academy HS School Guwahati after completion of his masters examination.

During this period he was awarded Ph.D. fellowship from Gauhati University but he did not join as he was offered lecturership from B. Barooah College, Guwahati. He continued his service upto the year 2000 after which he took Voluntary Retirement from service.
